My brother and I were here for an agf tournament I liked the building but I think that they should have allowed people to bring in food and drinks
How do you express delight in many well-thought facility plans that delight and contribute to the local community and beyond (💚 trail from pedestrian entrance on Theo Avenue!) yet have flaws that are all the more concerning because the facilities attest that they were all thoroughly planned?
1. exterior doors (other photo) chained and padlocked during indoors sporting event.
2. And no signage as to emergency exits.
This combination can be deadly.
3. Not enough changing facilities. 🩷 restroom for assistance for adults. But even with few children present, there are people waiting for the babies changing station. After all, changing a baby does take a while, and no one wants the previous adult to rush and not thoroughly clean the station before the next baby.
4. ONLY ONE wheelchair-accessible stall in restroom. So disappointing that a facility so world-class in some aspects is so discriminatory in others. Is this why so many events use Morgan's Wonderland which has some substantial logÃsticas challenges compared to this sports park but it does allow completing athletess to use the restroom!
I witnessed a middle-aged woman rush into the only wheelchair-accessible ahead of a person headed for it. Then there was the repeated sound of the toilet tissue being pulled from the roll. Eventually the woman opened the door and told the person waiting the toilet would not flash because it was full of toilet paper. The other person did flash the toilet--must be very well-designed toilets to not clog!
But that does not negate the responsibility of venue to stop enabming such stalking and harassment of people with disabilities. As the population ages, yes, many more people will be more aware of the needs of persons who have mobility limitations. But there will also be those like the toilet-trasher who exhibit severe mental illness and have developed habits of bullying and likely physically abusing people with disabilities, and have no appropriate mental boundaries to stop the continued enactment of such abuse onto strangers.
Common sense equality of restroom space would limit these opportunities and decrease abuse when people with various disabilities are not excluded from any of the restroom stalls.
5. Variable toilet Heights. Some of them are child height. Not sure how many of what height.
Please HAVE MERCY and LABEL STALL DOORS with toilet height information. This will prevent some adults from being stranded. Please!
6. This is a SPORTS facility, not a move theater. Concessions should not be only junk food.
This is the only sportsplex I know of that charges for parking. Just another last ditch grift to squeeze money out of parents and family members supporting our kids in youth sports. We are already paying league fees, tournament fees and you want us to pay to park to support our kids? If the only way you can keep this place running is having two goons in a golf cart collecting money like its a Spurs game. You are doing something wrong!
$5 for parking, ok. Bag checks, ok. No outside food or drinks, including Gatorade, ok. But then all you serve is junk food & $4 Gatorade. The Gatorade price is crazy. I know the food is possibly good, but something other than junk to put in an athlete's stomach between games would be nice. We packed our own food & ate outside but when it's 100°+, that's pretty miserable.
I must say the Mission Concepcion Softball Complex is one of the best things they could've done for this location. It's perfect space being utilized for those with active lifestyle. They have bathrooms available, parking is available all over the complex depending where you're going. If you're going inside for a volleyball game you'd park closer to the front, for the softball field area it's in middle and back areas.
Sometimes when they have volleyball school tournaments and softball games going on at the same time the parking gets overcrowded. Be prepared and patient trying to get out, there are only 2 lanes coming and going with no space to pass anyone up. Due to the overgrowth of vegetation it's hard to see around the curving road and you could end up having an accident with oncoming traffic. The road is narrow as you get further towards the back.
During the summer months you'll find an icecream truck in the parking lot. This park has lighting all around too, for the exception of the parking in the far back but you still have enough to see. They do have a water fountain but it tends to get overflowed and it's usually hot water. You do have the option of taking your own and they also have a power outlet. They do have seating available but it's metal bleachers at each field but they're NOT comfortable at all. They tend to be very low to the ground, I'd recommend folding chairs but depending where you park it's quite a walk having to carry everything. The walking trails are on the backside of the fields but at night or late evening it's very dark with no lights.
If you have a softball team and would like to reserve space you'd need to contact the City of San Antonio. There's is a fee to reserve space but if you want to take the kiddos to hit the ball around you can do that freely. The complex has 4 separate softball fields.
Was here for the summer Basketball Spurs Camp and awesome basketball courts and the best is the camp. If you looking for a summer basketball camp this is the best!
What a great Event put on by the San Antonio Spurs. The beautiful complex is designed for Basketball and Volleyball Tournaments. FYI be prepared to pay for parking $5 bucks.
Play volleyball here. The complex had not only indoor courts but also have baseball fields and a soccer field. It’s also very conveniently located near trails and historical old mission
